FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I know Ashigaru Armory swords are authentic nihonto?
A: All Ashigaru Armory Swords are sourced directly from Japan. This means each sword has a Torokusho associated with it that you will receive a copy of. The Torokusho certifies that the sword is a traditionally made, Japanese Sword, literally: Nihon-To. An imitation sword such as an Iaito, reproduction, or sword made by non-traditional methods will not have a Torokusho.
Q: Does a Torkusho certify things like mei or other inscriptions/attributions?
A: It does not. A sword with Torokusho can still be gimei and have a “fake” signature-the sword itself however is not a fake and is a genuine nihonto.
Q: Does Ashigaru Armory guarantee any previous attributions made by sellers or mei?
A: We do not. We hunt the steel not the smith-this means we offer many mumei or gimei swords if the quality is appropriate. If official paperwork is provided, modern NBHTK results are the most reliable as the older NHTK “green papers” can be forged.
Q: What type of quality can I expect from “Dojo Grade” Swords?
A: Functionality over looks. These are not investment grade swords. Some will be out of polish or scuffed, some will have kizu or ware and other flaws. Some may have deactivated rust & pitting. They will not be perfect. The swords will however be functional for either tameshigiri, iai or for project usage as designated.
Q: I bought a sword from Japan before and had to wait quite a long time to receive it. Will Ashigaru Armory take as long?
A: Absolutely not. Our swords are already in-country and you will not need to wait for the export period!
Q: If I have any additional questions about the process or product may I ask them?
A: ABSOLUTELY! We are here to assist YOU, and that means being available for any and all questions you might have!
